(San Francisco, CA) – Terry Semel, Chairman and CEO of Yahoo!, will share his vision on leadership in business and philanthropy with attendees at the first Business Leadership Council Breakfast of the Jewish Community Federation (Federation) of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties on Wednesday, January 25, 2006.

Terry Semel was named Yahoo!’s chairman and CEO in May 2001. Yahoo! is a leading global Internet brand and one of the most trafficked Internet destinations worldwide with more than 400 million unique monthly users. Semel is uniquely qualified to address this topic because he has been a leading force in the media and entertainment industries for over three decades. At Yahoo!, he has led the successful transition of the company by identifying and pursuing new opportunities within its core businesses.

Prior to Yahoo!, Semel spent 24 years at Warner Bros. As its chairman and co-chief executive officer, Semel and his partner, Robert Daly, built the company into one of the world’s largest and most creative media and entertainment enterprises, generating nearly $11 billion in total revenues from multiple businesses in 50 countries. Prior to Warner Bros., Semel was in charge of Walt Disney's Theatrical Distribution division and previously in charge of CBS’ Theatrical Distribution division. Semel is currently on the board of directors of Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, Emerson College, and the Guggenheim Museum.

Additionally, Semel is actively involved in philanthropic efforts across a wide variety of areas, including an endowment to support the Jane and Terry Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA. Their support enables the university to address the understanding and treatment of such diverse illnesses as autism, mood disorders, addiction and Alzheimer’s disease.

The Business Leadership Council (BLC) is a new initiative founded by Jewish leaders in the Bay Area business community and offers ongoing networking and Jewish community involvement opportunities geared towards executive-level Jewish business professionals. The goal is to provide a forum that connects, educates and inspires Jewish business professionals and leaders.

The Business Leadership Council breakfast is open to all Federation donors who contribute $1000 or more to the Federation’s Campaign 2006. Donors under the age of 40 who contribute $500 are also welcome.

The Jewish Community Federation is the central organization for fundraising, planning, outreach and leadership development for Jewish communities in San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties. In FY 2004-05, the Federation’s annual campaign allocated $16.9 million to some 60 agencies providing social services, educational and cultural programs in the Bay Area, in the U.S., Israel and elsewhere in the world. In fiscal year 2005, the Federation’s Endowment Fund, with assets exceeding $1.05 million, provided more than $215 million for a variety of grants, seed projects and emergency needs.
