(San Francisco, CA) – Whether it’s trekking through Belize, making an independent film, horseback riding, swimming, painting or dancing, there’s something fun for kids, teens or families to do this summer! The Jewish Summer Camps and Israel Programs Fair will present information on over 100 Jewish summer programs, overnight and day camps, adventure and academic programs, specialty camps, summer jobs and programs for the entire family. Due to the success of this fair over the past several years, the 2006 Fair has been expanded to two dates and locations: Sunday, January 29 at the Albert L. Schultz Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto and Monday, January 30 at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. Representatives and alumni from 50 programs will be onsite to answer questions; scholarship information also will be available. Both events are free and open to the public.

The Fair will feature camps and programs located throughout the U.S., Israel and around the world, including:

  • Costa Rican Adventures offers a three-week, action-packed journey through Costa Rica and Belize. The program integrates adventure travel, community service and exposure to indigenous cultures, all within a Jewish framework.
  • Seeking Common Ground, a program focused on young women, brings together Americans, Israelis and Palestinians for a year-long leadership development and peace-building program.
  • Camp Kimama in Israel offers American Jewish youth a first-class, bilingual, North American-style overnight camp with kids from Israel and all over the world. It features traditional camp activities, including horseback riding, sea and waterfront activities, arts and crafts, sports, performing arts and classes in Jewish identity and community service.
  • Masa, also in Israel, offers 116 exciting programs for 18-30-year-olds, offering a way to  experience the land, volunteer within Israeli society, learn Hebrew and meet Israeli peers while studying music, art, Judaic or environmental studies.
  • The New Jewish Filmmaking Project is a program of the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival for aspiring young film makers in the Bay Area.
  • Opportunities for Hebrew language and Israel Culture education are available through Ulpan Akiva, kibbutz Ulpan and more.

The Jewish Summer Camps and Israel Programs Fair is sponsored by: The Israel Center of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties.  Contact the Israel Center, 415.512.6203, israelcenter@sfjcf.org for more information.
