Thomas A. Dine was the chief executive officer of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties from 2005 to 2007. Previously he was president of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Prague, a position he held for eight years. From 1993 to 1997, he served as the assistant administrator of Europe and Eurasia at USAID and he was executive director of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) from 1980 to 1993.
Prior to these leadership posts, Dine worked as a foreign policy specialist in the U.S. Senate (1970 to 1980), was a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and held three fellowships at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. Early in his career, he served at the American Embassy in New Delhi, India and as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines. Dine has published widely in the press, as well as in specialized foreign policy journals, and has edited two books. He and his wife, Joan, have two grown children and one grandson.
