The speakers this year are two of the area’s most accomplished business professionals and visionary philanthropists. Mr. Benioff is chairman and CEO of salesforce.com, which he founded in 1999 with a vision to create an on-demand information management service that would replace traditional enterprise technology. Mr. Benioff is regarded as the leader of what he has termed "The End of Software." Under Mr. Benioff's direction, salesforce.com has grown from a groundbreaking idea into a publicly traded company that is the market and technology leader in on-demand business services. Mr. Benioff has also been committed to using technology to produce positive social change. In 2000, he launched the Salesforce.com Foundation and established the “1/1/1 Model,” whereby 1% of the company’s profits, equity, and employee time are given back to the community. Mr. Benioff has authored two books on the topic, The Business of Changing the World and Compassionate Capitalism. In 2007 the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy presented Mr. Benioff with the coveted Excellence in Corporate Philanthropy Award.

Mr. Hellman, who co-founded Hellman & Friedman in 1984, is the firm's Chairman and serves on the firm's Investment and Compensation Committees. Mr. Hellman is currently a Director of Levi Strauss & Co., D.N. & E. Walter & Co., and Sugar Bowl Corporation. Mr. Hellman has been associated with numerous companies, including Young & Rubicam Inc., The NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc., Ferri Investment Associates, Matrix Management Company, and Lehman Brothers. He is a member of the University of California, Walter A. Haas School of Business Advisory Board and, in 2005, was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

BLC is growing dramatically given JCF's commitment to hosting events and speaker seminars in both San Francisco and the Peninsula. Past speakers include Terry S. Semel, former chairman and chief executive officer of Yahoo! Inc., and Larry Brilliant, executive director of Google.org.

The Jewish Community Federation’s BLC is a vibrant group of Bay Area Jewish leaders dedicated to connecting business professionals with each other, fostering Jewish values, and raising funds to secure a Jewish future. BLC accomplishes these goals by hosting networking events, outreach programs, a stimulating speaker series, as well as the Annual BLC Gala Breakfast.

Sponsors of the Breakfast include: Bernstein Global Wealth Management, Duane Morris LLP, Levensohn Venture Partners, Mandell Law Group P.C., Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo P.C., Ruben Consulting Group, LLP, UBS Financial Services,  U.S. Trust, and Bank of America Private Wealth Management.

*The BLC Breakfast is for attendees who make a commitment of $1,000 or more to the Federation’s 2008 Annual Campaign Your gift is payable through December 31, 2008.

Ethical Will

Create Your Own Ethical Will

The Lion of Judah Endowment (LOJE) Committee and the Jewish Community Endowment Fund are sponsoring two workshops which will allow community members to learn how to create their own ethical will.

Ethical wills are non-legal documents which allow the writer to share their wisdom, values, morals, hopes and dreams with their families and communities. An ethical will represents a meaningful and powerful way to reflect on the accumulated wisdom of a lifetime and to pass along this gift to younger generations. And an ethical will leaves descendants and the community with a record that embodies who the writer is — a living legacy.

Campaign 2008

Campaign Update with the Traegers: Thank You

We want to start 2008 off by thanking you for your impressive response to a special opportunity to boost the impact of your gift through your participation in the Nancy and Stephen Grand $1 Million Dollar Challenge Grant.

We all know that giving through the Federation is one of the most effective ways to ensure a Jewish response to uncertain times: in Israel, to help communities in need and help Jews at risk; in the former Soviet Union, to provide vital care and basic needs for the elderly; and here at home in the Bay Area, to care for our seniors, provide job training, family counseling, and forge a stronger connection to Jewish identity for our children.

Many of you either gave a new gift, or committed to an increase so that your donation amount could be matched by funds from the Challenge Grant, making your money go even further.  On behalf of the many people whose lives will be touched by your contribution, we thank you.

Because of your overwhelming response to the opportunity to double your giving power, the Challenge Grant will continue to match your new gift or increase this year, up to the grant’s million dollar total.

Every Gift Counts in our Jewish Community.
60 Agencies - 5 Days - 1 million reasons to give.

This year, Sunday, March 2 through Sunday, March 9, 2008, JCF is planning a week of phone-a-thons to reach out to our community. We’re counting on you to help us raise critical funds.  And all new or increased gifts are doubled thanks to the Nancy and Stephen Grand Million Dollar Challenge Grant.

Thank you in advance for helping us make the most of this unique chance to enhance the power of our communal dollars – by answering our call, you ensure a better world for our Jewish family.

If you have questions or would like to donate, please contact Sarah at 415.512.6240.
