Bureau of Jewish Education - $130,419

To support the centralized process to review scholarship applications and award scholarships for Jewish overnight camps for children from throughout the greater Bay Area, including staffing, marketing and a one-time expense to implement an online application system.

Bureau of Jewish Education - $50,000

. For continued support of the Jewish Everyday Moments in Pre-School (JEMS) program, providing intensive professional development to 12 early childhood educators and 6 mentor teachers from Federation-area Jewish preschools, in order to better integrate Jewish content into everyday experiences for pre-school children and their families. (Jewish Community Endowment Kohn Fund)

Bureau of Jewish Education - $15,000

For continued support of the Shabbat Weekend for Children with Disabilities and Their Families, a family camp weekend  that enables children with developmental disabilities to experience the joys of Jewish family camping in a nurturing, supportive and inclusive environment.

For continued support of staff development and consultation services in special education, provided throughout the Bay Area.

Middle School Class Trips to Israel: a collaboration between the Gideon Hausner, Ronald C. Wornick, and Brandeis Hillel Jewish Day Schools, and South Peninsula Hebrew Day School – $38,333 reserve fund

For continued support of need-based scholarships for middle school class trips to Israel. (Jewish Community Endowment Fund)

Community-wide Jewish Preschool Scholarship Fund - $50,000

As a contribution toward a new permanent community-wide scholarship fund within the Jewish Community Endowment Fund to increase access to Jewish preschools for children from low-income families, with a particular focus on single parent families.  Grant funds will be used to help meet the $250,000 challenge grant issued by an anonymous donor to create the permanent endowment. Friendship Circle, Palo Alto - $5,000

To support Summer and Winter camps in the Palo Alto area. (Jewish Community Endowment Kohn Fund)

Jewish Community Center of San Francisco – Club 18 - $25,000

For continued support for the Club 18 Center for teens, providing a safe and supportive environment for teens to explore and develop their Jewish identity.  (Jewish Community Endowment Newhouse Fund)

The Jewish Early Childhood Education Initiative - $338,000

To support the following five components of the Jewish Community Federation’s new initiative to engage Jewish families with young children in meaningful Jewish life and community. This initiative will link several programs recently seed-funded by the JCEF with new activities to broaden the reach of Jewish ECE, leveraging JCF Campaign strategic funding and foundation support.  The initiative is informed by national and local study and analysis of the significant opportunities for connection with families with young children, capitalizing on their openness to engaging at this life stage and on the “peer effect” which helps determine families’ subsequent Jewish choices.   1. Albert L. Schultz JCC (in collaboration with Congregation Beth Am)$108,000
    Expansion of Jewish ECE sites: for seed funding of capital expenses for a new South Peninsula-based Jewish community preschool
  1. Bureau of Jewish Education –$38,000
    To provide the 2nd year of support for the “Atid Fellows” Program, providing ongoing training for 10 early childhood educators in Jewish family education and supporting the implementation of new family education programs at their school sites. 
  1. Congregation Kol Shofar/Osher Marin JCC – $142,000
    Expansion of Jewish ECE sites: to provide a one-time grant for seed funding of capital and program expenses for a new southern Marin-based Jewish community preschool
  1. Jewish Community Information & Referral – $25,000
    Outreach to families with young children: to support the 3rd year of seed funding for the Chai Baby program
  1. Jewish Community Information & Referral (JCI&R) – $25,000
    Outreach to families with young children: $25,000 to support the 2nd year of funding for the PJ Library

The Young Funders Forum — $35,100

To support a two-year pilot program to engage 50-60 next generation funders from throughout the region in a 6-8 session philanthropic education and peer networking program. (Jewish Community Endowment Fund)

The Student Conference Fund - $10,000

To support a community-wide scholarship fund for Jewish high school and college student leaders to attend conferences to enhance their leadership in the Jewish community, to be administered through the Bureau of Jewish Education. (Jewish Community Endowment Kohn Fund)

Jewish Family & Life! - JFL Media - $22,000 reserve fund

For a pilot project to sponsor the distribution of a monthly BABAGANEWZ magazine to all 4-7th graders in the Federation Service Area’s 23 congregational schools, providing teaching guides to facilitate the use of this tool in Jewish values education, monthly e-newsletters to engage parents and administrators, and an evolving website.  (Jewish Community Endowment Fund)

Jewish Coalition for Literacy, with the Jewish Community Relations Council as fiscal agent - $25,000

To support the training, recruitment and placement of the 530 volunteers currently working in 53 schools throughout the Bay Area, serving 1,325 at-risk Kindergarten-5th grade students, and providing a visible Jewish communal response to the literacy crisis in the public schools. Jewish Family and Children’s Services - $15,000    

To support early childhood mental health consultation services for at-risk children, their families, and educators at two Jewish preschools on the Peninsula. (Jewish Community Endowment Kohn Fund)

Jewish Vocational Service - $105,000

Kohn 2008 Summer Internship program/Alumni Program for 33 Jewish college students during the summer of 2008 as well as the continuation of an alumni network for Kohn program alumni.  (Jewish Community Endowment Kohn Fund)

Stanford University - $135,000

For scholarships and research fellowships to Jewish Studies graduate students, and advanced Hebrew tutorial instruction and related instructional materials for graduate students. (Jewish Community Endowment Newhouse Fund)

University of California, Berkeley - Jewish Studies Program - $136,000

For graduate scholarships, fellowships, and research stipends to help support the growth of the Jewish Studies program; and support for instructional expenses for courses in Yiddish. (Jewish Community Endowment Newhouse Fund)
