The
Diller Teen Fellows
Experiencing Breishit:
Costa Rican Adventure
This year, due to security concerns, the Diller Teen Fellows Summer Seminar
did not take place in Israel. Instead, the group shared their planned journey in a new location. Collaborating with
Endangered Spirit, a Jewish outdoor education organization, this year's Diller Summer Seminar
took place in beautiful Costa Rica.
The Diller group used their natural surroundings along with traditional texts to study Breishit and explore their relationship to Creation. They
met both indigenous people and the local Jewish community as they explored the struggles involved in retaining one's culture. The Diller group
also participated in community service projects while they are in Costa Rica.

I am positive that I will come back knowing a lot more about environmental concerns of the present time and how we can address them. I know I'll have a fabulous time being in a new place.I also cannot wait to study Torah and further the shaping of Judaism in my own life.

I expect to see a different culture. I hope we'll meet Jews and see how it is to be Jewish in a country where there are barely any Jews. . also to see what San Jose is like, specifically what a synagogue in San Jose is like.

I expect to learn about the Jewish and ecological aspects of a beautiful country I never thought I'd get to see.

I would love to leave the trip with a handful maybe two handfuls of new experiences. I have never traveled through a rainforest and I have always wished to do so. I expect to leave the trip with tight bonds with the rest of the group as we work together and support one another. But most of all I want to have a blast!
