Jewish Community Endowment Fund (JCEF) donors recognize the high importance of education and leadership for the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish community and are active supporters of programs in these areas. More than twenty funds and supporting foundations at the JCEF provide funding for scholarship, campership, leadership and Israel experience programs. JCEF partners with the Bureau of Jewish Education to administer many of these programs.
Preschool scholarships
A new $250,000 challenge grant has been launched to provide need-based scholarships for working and single parent families to send their children to Jewish preschool programs at accredited Jewish preschools within the Federation service area. In recent years, the high cost of living in the Bay Area has made Jewish preschool inaccessible to many families, and particularly single-parent families. preschool scholarship funds are needed to ensure that cost is not a barrier to active participation in Jewish life for young families. Jewish preschools serve as an important bridge to Jewish family life for many young families, including those who are unaffiliated and/or interfaith. Jewish day school scholarships
The Community Jewish Day School Scholarship Fund is a restricted fund of the JCEF created through a $250,000 challenge grant from the Laura and Gary Lauder Philanthropic Fund. The Day School Scholarship Fund distributed over $80,000 its first year, thanks to matching contributions of $20,000 to $150,000. The original $250,000 is a permanent endowment. It is hoped that the fund will grow over time through additional grants that will allow for increased scholarship support each year. Applications for these last monies scholarships must be submitted by individual Jewish Day Schools once they have submitted required documentation and been notified that they are qualified to participate.
