General Guidelines

    1. Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of your scheduled time slot.
    2. Go to Volunteer Check-In on Howard Street side (between Third and Fourth Street.) Volunteer tent is marked in RED letters.
    3. Check in with the volunteers on duty.
    4. Put on your Israel in the Gardens T-shirt and wear it throughout your shift!
    5. Receive the “Passport to the Jewish Community”, the survey, instructions sheet, a program guide, a map of the park, an apron (if you will be a “roamer” to carry material for handout), and an identifying piece (sticker), so the crowd can easily recognize you as a volunteer.
    6. Hand out the “Passport to the Jewish Community” and the instruction sheet that explains what they need to do to be eligible to enter the drawing for 2 free coach tickets on ELAL to Israel. Explain the survey, and if needed help them fill it out. Should you run out of passports or surveys, please ask a staff person to have more delivered to your booth.
    7. If the media arrives please call Harriett Hardy at 415-218-3746 or ask a staff member with a radio to contact Harriett.

Volunteer Check-In Booth
*Note: you are only checking in volunteers who have offered their services to the overall event organized by the Israel Center – not those who staff specific organizations’ booths.

    1. Sign-in incoming volunteers based on overall list.
    2. Give each incoming volunteer a map of the park, a program guide, “Passport to the Jewish Community”, Instruction sheet and survey (roamers will receive an apron with all information and a flag or ribbons on a stick) and direct them to their assigned spot.
    3. If there are walk-in volunteers, please have volunteer coordinator paged for check-in and assignment.
    4. Non-volunteers (regular attendees) can enter without check-in.
    5. Never leave the volunteer check in spot unattended.
    6. If you detect something suspicious going on in the vicinity please alert volunteer coordinator.
    7. Perform various chores as required.

Artist/Vendor Volunteer

    1. Check in with the artists/vendors coordinators, Andy Greenberg, Linn Stillman and Rhoda Wolfe that will be waiting in the Information booths on Howard Street. Announce you are a volunteer and find out what needs to be done and which artists/vendors need attention.
    2. Assist artist(s)/vendor(s) in locating their assigned spot(s) and help settle them in.
    3. You may not authorize artists/vendors to change or switch assigned booths or tables. Any artist/ vendor who move to another spot will be requested to leave the park.
    4. Remind artists/vendors (if necessary) that they cannot move tables and other display furniture that is provided to them in their booths.
    5. If artists/vendors need extra tools or supplies, they can be found in a box marked supplies in the volunteer tent.
    6. Pass on important information given by artists to volunteer coordinator and report anything unusual to artist coordinator or volunteer coordinator
    7. Important! You are not responsible for any of the artwork/goods. Do not allow yourself to be left in charge or alone with the artwork or goods.

Information Booth

    1. Go to your assigned information booth and make sure you have    a  program open in front of you.
    2. Familiarize yourself with the Gardens and all its activities:
      • Jewish organizations
      • Kids activities
      • Teen
      • Contemporary Jewish Museum –Film Festival
      • Artist/ vendors – Sheinkin Street /Marketplace
      • Food  - we have both Kosher and non-Kosher foods
      • First Aid, Lost and Found and Security
      • Restrooms and public phones
    3. Direct people to different locations and activities based on what they ask you and what you think they might be interested in (kids, art, food, etc.)
    4. Lost children should be reported (details will be conveyed when you arrive on the job)
    5. Relay to volunteer coordinator any questions to which you do not have the  answer.
    6. Refer any questions to the volunteer coordinator.
    7. Report anything unusual to the volunteer coordinator

Roaming Greeters, From Generation to Generation (Mi'dor l'dor)*

    1. Familiarize yourself with the Gardens and its lay-out, so you are able to direct people when needed.
    2. Familiarize yourself with the Program.
    3. There is a drawing, with the winner receiving two round-trip tickets to Israel on ELAL! In order for people to qualify in the drawing they must get their "Passport to the Jewish Community". See instruction sheet and make sure to hand it out with the passport.
    4. Once the Passport is completed there are 2 drop-off locations available:
      1. SF-based Jewish Community Federation booth
      2. The Israel Center Booth
      Check the map and make sure you are familiar with the locations.
    5. Surveys will be available in 4 booths:
      1. SF-Based Jewish Community Federation
      2. Israel Center booth
      3. TBD
    6. Please mingle with the crowd, engage them, ask if they have filled out the “Passport to the Jewish Community” and help them if necessary.
      Be pro-active - You are the face of the community!
    7. If anyone asks about the Federation and the Israel Center please send them to the Federation booth, or the Israel Center booth.
    * From Generation to Generation (Mi'dor l'dor) - Young adults and teens paired with Seniors at Israel in the Gardens in celebration of Tel Aviv @ 100.

Children’s Activities Volunteer

    1. Make yourself familiar with the map of the Gardens.
    2. Be kind and patient with the children who come to enjoy the activities.
    3. Be creative if volunteers of exhibit do not have an item/tool they need (other people might have extras or check the supply box in the volunteer tent).
    4. Pass on important information given by other volunteers to the volunteer coordinator at the appropriate time.
    5. Report anything unusual to staff with a radio, so they can get assistance if needed.
