ABOUT DR. LARRY BRILLIANT
Dr. Brilliant is the executive director of Google.org, the umbrella
organization which includes the Google Foundation, Google Grants
and Google’s partnerships with and contributions to for-profit
and nonprofit entities. He is an M.D. and M.P.H., board-certified
in preventive medicine and public health. Previously, he served
as a medical officer for the World Health Organization (WHO)’s
successful smallpox eradication program and was a professor of global
health and economic development. He founded the Seva Foundation,
whose projects in 15 countries have given back sight to more than
two million blind people. He is also co-founder of The WELL, the
pioneering online service, and has served as CEO of two public companies
and other venture-backed startups. Larry was named the 2005 “International
Public Health Hero” of the University of California, was awarded
the 2006 TED Prize and has received numerous other honors and honorary
