| The Mirkam Initiative in Rosh Ha’ayin is an educational cultural program in the spirit of pluralistic Judaism that strives to weave a new cultural and educational fabric (the literal meaning of “Mirkam”) of Israeli-Jewish community life, relevant to the dilemmas and challenges facing contemporary Israeli society. This initiative is a strategic partnership between Meitar: The College of Judaism as Culture, HaMidrasha at Oranim, the Municipality of Rosh Ha’Ayin and the San Francisco Federation. The partners in this project are working with local volunteers, children and adults at schools and in community centers to create a community-wide Jewish experience including community celebrations of holidays, innovative curricula at schools, educational enrichment programs and more. One of the major areas of Mirkam activity will focus on connecting residents of Rosh Ha’Ayin with parallel groups and individuals in the Bay Area, creating a link between the two communities and thus expressing the value of Jewish peoplehood. |
